Goals
It is the goal of our dietitian to assist rostered PEFHT County residents to improve their eating habits so that a better quality of life can be enjoyed at all ages.
Services
Individual appointments can be arranged to review your specific nutritional needs and eating habits. Our dietitian will provide you with the information and support you need to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Our dietitian can help you to improve your eating habits through:
Education:
- Managing cholesterol
- Management of high blood pressure
- Weight management to help achieve your best weight
- Reducing the workload on your kidneys in mild to moderate chronic kidney disease
- Prevention and treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis
- Preventing and correcting various vitamin and mineral deficiencies
- Seniors nutrition
- Treatment of celiac disease
- Improving bowel habits (to manage constipation or diarrhea, including symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome)
- Balanced meals and general healthy eating advice
- Pre-natal nutrition
- Eating healthy on a budget
- Meal planning
- Label reading including low sodium eating, and more
Counselling:
- Individual sessions
- Focus on specific eating patterns to help manage a wide variety of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure.
- Provides individualized and general resources.
Group Education:
Community-Based Workshops:
- On request
- Topics include healthy eating basics, label reading and preparing healthier meals at home and more.
Local Programs:
PEC Fresh – A Good Food Market: Offers an opportunity for more affordable produce. Open every Wednesday in Picton from 3:30-5:30pm, every other Saturday in Sophiasburg and every other Friday in Consecon. Details are available on their website or follow them on Facebook.

This year’s theme “Nourish to Flourish” is all about the connection between food and well-being.
Proper nutrition is important for good health across the lifespan. At the Prince Edward Family Health Team, one of our goals is to help patients have the best possible health throughout life.
Are you eating the right kinds and amounts of food to provide your body with the necessary vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, protein, fibre, and antioxidants for physical health, performance, and disease preventing and managing disease including malnutrition.
