Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a secondary disease prevention program consisting of exercise and education by a multidisciplinary team.  The program is proven to improve participant’s quality of life and to facilitate the adoption of a healthy and active lifestyle following a cardiac event.

The Cardiac Rehab. – Prince Edward Ambulatory Cardiac Health (PEACH) program offers Cardiac Rehabilitation in the Picton Clinic building next to Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital on Main Street in Picton.

A commitment to participate in one exercise session each week for up to 12 weeks. Attendance at weekly education presentations during the program and ongoing participation in community activity programs following graduation is also encouraged to continue a heart-healthy lifestyle.

The PEACH team includes RN Cathy Brose, physiotherapist Nancy Lock and Community Support Planner Kerry Ford. The program is supported by Mary Dreifelds RN, Mary Stever RN and Dr. Phil Wattam.

Goals

To provide support following adverse cardiac events through supervised exercise and heart health education to help participants regain confidence and improve their fitness.

Services

Cardiac Rehab provides a series of medically supervised, individually prescribed exercise sessions in a setting with other Cardiac patients. Communications for participants include live education sessions with PEFHT Clinicians, including our Registered Dietitian, Diabetes Nurse Educator, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Cardiac Nurse Specialist and Mental Health Professionals. Other avenues of communication include educational videos, webpage/printed materials and secure email program updates.
