March is Nutrition Month
🥗 Welcome to Nutrition Month 2025! 🥗
This year’s theme “Nourish to Flourish” is all about the connection between food and well-being. The subtheme for Week #1 it is “Physiological Wellbeing Nutrition.”
Proper nutrition is important for good health across the lifespan. At the Prince Edward Family Health Team, one of our goals is to help patients have the best possible health throughout life.
Are you eating the right kinds and amounts of food to provide your body with the necessary vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, protein, fibre, and antioxidants for physical health, performance, and disease preventing and managing disease including malnutrition.

🌱✨ Nourish to Flourish – Food has the power to transform! ✨🌱
The subtheme for Week #2 is “Mental Wellbeing Nutrition”
Food is powerful and nourishes more than just our bodies—it nourishes our minds, our emotions, and our overall well-being. Could it be the missing piece of the puzzle for your mental health? Mental symptoms such as brain fog or lack of focus can be linked to medical conditions that need nutritional management, such as ADHD. A balanced diet can also help improve mental function for kids to perform better at school, reduce effects of perimenopause, and improve mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Although dietary strategies are often overlooked, they can lead to big improvements in mental well-being.
Let’s nourish our bodies to flourish, together! #NutritionMonth2025 #NourishToFlourish
🌟 Wednesday March 19th is Dietitian’s Day! 🌟
Our PEFHT Dietitian, Sarah Sandham with the Clinical Nutrition Program is passionate about helping PEC patients understand how what’s on your plate can make a big difference in your physical, mental, and emotional health.
The sub-theme for Week #3 is “Sociocultural Wellbeing.”
Food connects families, communities and cultures. Dietary patterns are a reflection of who we are. Food is more than just nutrients – it connects us to our families and communities and helps shape our identities. Work schedules, cooking skills, lifestyle choices and family dynamics influence food choice, not to mention access to food and budget constraints. Let’s empower each other to develop healthy, fulfilling dietary patterns that are aligned with their values and circumstances.
🥗 Nourish to Flourish—This Nutrition Month, we are talking about how you can use food to fuel your entire life. 🥗
The sub-theme for Week#4 is “Emotional Wellbeing.”
Emotional eating is part of everyday life. Eating can bring happiness, ease tension, and create distraction. People also have positive or negative memories linked with specific food choices that influence their preferences. However, emotional eating can become a problem when feelings are avoided and go straight to eating. This can override hunger cues. Did you know that approximately 70% of overeating is caused by emotional eating? Thankfully there are many ways to eat healthier by identifying triggers and finding alternative coping mechanisms for emotional challenges.
